Week 12 – Journal

At the first time, we just decided to create the Lazy Suzi to be a real product. But we didn’t think clearly the facts and just imagined it was accessible. After consulting with tutor, we found out that it could be everything such as software, program or game etc. Personally, I think the key moment was a priority to confidently understand the project and the real personality of the object. After that, we develop Lazy Suzi to be a handy item gradually. It is not only a program for declaration; users can also generate their outlooks, body builds and hair styles etc. This is an interesting concept, functional selections of Lazy Suzi that we want to introduce to the users.

From this project, I have learnt how to work with people in group, and how to cooperate with team efficiently. Everyone has own personality and working style, sometimes we can’t change people attitude and control them to do it following by the same way. However, I admit that self-reasonability and self-management are also very important to us to work in group. No matter we work as individual or group, this is an essential skill we need to learn from each other. Besides, I also could build up my communication skill to deal with people. This was my personal experience that I got and I think it is quite useful in the future.

Finally, I hope Lazy Suzi could become an actual program that release onto the real market. I reckon it could help people to solve their problems. Honestly, I really think it works and gives more fun for people.

Week 11 – Journal

Actually, I most enjoyed the parts of research. Particularly in the interview section, I enjoyed doing the researches face to face to people. It was fun. I had a great time to communicate with people, and also got experience in working as group during the project management. Apart from that, I could think widely if something you never tried or touched before. It was a big challenge for us to get into a next level. The most difficult thing might be the part of making a final video. We spent lots of time to think about what it is going to be? I am not good at using software like flash, imovie those sorts of stuffs. Fortunately, one of our group mates is good at using flash, so we decided to produce our final video in flash. So, I drawn some storyboards and assist him to do the other parts of the video. I think communication and work arrangement are even important to work as a group.

If I could change something for the video, I would produce a professional video instead of the simple one we have done. It looked boring and crappy because of the flat colours and basic outline of graphics. I think if we could have a second chance, we could do it better than the current one, and also made it more wonderful and detailed as best as we could.

Week 10 – Journal

Lazy Suzi is a software program that helps people to make their right decision on matching clothes. If it were a real piece out in the real world, it might be an attractive item, and appeal to the young audiences. As we mentioned before, it is a convenient tool to solve our daily problems. Apart from that, it also effectively save our time and build up our own lifestyle. I understand that if everyone depends on using ‘Lazy Suzi” instead of controlling by hand, it would be a serious problem that people become lazy and unorganised. At the moment, Lazi Suzi is still in developing stage. It is not a complex program. However, people will think that they can save everything on it. Honestly, the memory would not be big enough for them one day due to the fashion trend. Currently, people like shopping around, they have different clothes as many as they can’t imagine. So, the disk space is a consideration to make them feel enough. I would prefer people to think about that Lazy Suzi is just like an assistant to help their needs. Besides, if the design works for the audiences, I would measure the new software with additional functionality. It would be an innovative, user-friendly and interactive program that everyone can use it without any stress.

Week 9 – Journal: Watch TV

The Gruen Transfer (TGT) is a good TV channel to show us all sorts of interesting advertising. For this week – I watched Season 2 Episode 10 (20 May), the topic was about fast food and sexual affect in advertising. After watching this show, I reckon lots of ads campaigns were successful to make a strong influence on children. McDonald’s is a good example to make more money from their advertising. They use an effective strategy to attract the audiences to purchase their meals. Even everyone knows that McDonald’s is not healthy for them. The advertisement was amazing that the ad gained lots of attention by using sexual elements and cartoon to both young and mature target audiences. To my mind, Advertising agency has a strong Marketing strategy to sell their products. For adults, they focused on the first image (the sexy lady) then go directly to the second image (burger). It is a good strategy to recall their impression (the sexy lady) and temptation (feel hungry) straight away from the ad. On the other hand, McDonald’s is building up a happy impression and using the toys to appeal to the children. I strongly agree that the ‘happy meal’ will harm their health and life. Even the ad totally gained their attention, and lots of children kept asking for their parents to buy the happy meals because of the “bloody toys”. Finally, I think a good ad is not only for selling products or earning money. I appreciate the creative ways that they promote their products well. It also can draw audience’s attention by using colours, musics, simple title, strong images and creative character. In my opinion, successful ad can draw our buying decision, but the responsibility is always in customer’s mind because they have a free choice to get what they want.

Week 8 – Journal

After completing our prototype and final testing, we have to create our actual video in coming weeks. The journal entry is a developing process that helps us to go through our project effectively. Basically, we decided to create our video by using storyboard to present step by step. It supposes to be similar to the other groups.

I would like to know about another team’s ideas, what they intend to present? How they introduce their product? How they interact with the audiences? How they show their ideas through graphics, animation, or music effect etc.

Obviously, our idea is simply clear. Lazy Suzi is an interactive tool to generate clothing set for user. But the audiences might be misunderstood if we don’t provide the introduction of using this software in NDS. However, we need to tell the whole story to the audiences in the video. The video will let them know how to generate their clothing set and how to create their own character in Lazy Suzi. All images will present step by step, such like electronic manual and instruction. As a result, the audiences will understand our design easily.

Most importantly, we have to make sure that the video is straight forward, and it will be produced with motion graphics and simple images. So, the audiences will not be confused after watching the video.

Week 7 – Journal: Prototype Testing

After the prototyping testing, we got lots of comments and suggestions to improve our “Lazy Suzi”. It is definitely incomplete and rough at the moment. As we know we have to solve our problems and figure out the best solutions to make it better.

The peer reviews were amazing and ineradicable. It was such a good process to learn from other groups and shared our experience. We also could get lots of comments and feedbacks. To my mind, it is a good section to improve our project greatly.

The big surprise was the atmosphere during the session; the reason was obviously shown that people were very passionate in their project. When we approached the selected group, they tried to explain clearly about their product or service. It was like a professional presentation.

There was something I was not expected because our group forgot to provide a prefect prototype to let other groups for testing. Due to our technical problems, we needed to provide some samples for testing such as clothes, accessories, shoes etc. In addition, it was not a complete outcome that we designed for testing.

The worst thing I encountered was bad preparation. Basically, we also got some groups who didn’t understand what our concept was; it was so disappointed that we could not prove how our prototype works and show what the experimental teaching methods would be successful. It was pretty frustrated when it happened. In contrast, the best thing was a good opportunity to let us learn from other groups and also share valuable experience.

In this stage, I think our group has been doing on track. As I mentioned previously, “Lazy Suzie” is not an existing product and its electronic deceive is not yet developed by any actual testing. All we have developed were just our concept idea and planning process. At the beginning, we set the target market incorrectly. Actually, we have to focus on young teenagers instead of young adults. It is because young teens are more interested in electronic products and even electronic products as they spent lots of time on it. However, we changed our idea of iphone to NDS. It is more acceptable for young teens rather than young adults. For some reasons, young adults may not spend much time on NDS as young teens do. Personally, iphone is not commonly used by any target group as well. In comparison, NDS is more innovative and popular in the market.

So far I am satisfied with my group mates, they are willing to listen and discuss the problem with each other if there have different points of view. Generally, we do not have any arguments during our discussion. But there is a problem which may concern all the time, we normally just contact each other through msn messenger, however, we may have a conflict if everyone doesn’t get involved to discuss on time. It is serious problem that may arrange and manage our project on track difficultly.

It is no doubt that time-management and self-awareness is very important to work as team or group. It is not fair if everyone doesn’t attend to the group meeting. Although we cannot discuss face to face directly, the best method to arrange our project is working separately. I strongly believe that everyone should have their own responsibility and contribution. In the end, we set a commitment and allocation for this project. This is an effective strategy to make our group to work on right track.

Week 5 – Journal: Group Progress

In Week 5, we started writing for our personas and scenario. Actually, we have been contributing our project gradually. The idea of “Lazy Suzi” is very obvious. From the part of our analyses, we decided to choose Nintendo DS instead of iphone. NDS is the most popular, and portable electronic deceive in the current market. Target groups or users are able to select their decoration conveniently. Moreover, they also can select suitable dressing or clothing by different life styles or different personalities. NDS is an interactive electronic deceive which provides some interesting functions such as muti-users connection and self-decoration. (Users can select whatever they like to dress). Moreover, the selling cost of NDS is much lower than I-phone. It means that teenagers can afford the cost and it is reasonable to get one as iphone is more suitable for the high-end market.

We also started doing our prototype this week; it is the structure and planning of our “lazy Suzie”. For my part, I managed our results from all researches and summed all up together to our scenario. I rearranged our information and finalized all results to be qualified documents. After our discussion, we needed to make sure that “Lazy Suzi” should be used in a device. The big challenge that we felt “Lazi Suzi” is not imaginable as we concerned about the actual facts and existing problems.

In the research, we found out that lots of audiences and users are interested in using NDS more than iphone. Apart from the comparison between these products, we realized that NDS is more dynamic and interactive. Moreover, it is not only in favour with teens, it is also suitable for young adult. The biggest concern of our audiences is about the panel or manual control, we need to make sure that it is user-friendly for all users, and they would know how to create their own favourite decoration.

Week 4 – Journal: Research

The most surprising thing I found from our research was an interview with audiences at QV. I got an interviewer who is Uni student. His name is Marcus Lam, from Hong Kong. I was so enjoyable to have a long conversation with him because he shared lots of about his opinion and suggestion. He was the nicer interviewer on that day. However, I realized that interviewed with people face to face was not too bad, depends on their personality and interests. At the beginning, I felt so difficult to appeal to the interviewers. After that interview, I felt that communication was very important because it was full of interaction and engagement. Only if we reached them, they didn’t mind talking to us. On the other hand, we also got to know them easily. In the future, we need communication skills to contact our client if we were professional designers.

I did not expect our final results. Even we collected some qualified surveys, but not many people would be preferable to do our surveys. They seemed very busy and sometimes they just walked away and ignored our conversations. Actually, we haven’t got their attention and reaction at all. I supposed that we need to find out the best solutions that appeal to our interviewers effectively and also gained this unforgettable experience and learnt from it to do our best next time.

Week 3 – Journal: “Lazy Suzi”

Lazy Suzi

“Lazy Suzi” is an effective tool that helps people to save time when selecting clothes. The idea affects people’s lifestyles and it helps to generate innovative fashion sense. It is very important that most of people have wasted a lot of time just to consider of their outfits. The value of this invention is to help people to save time and to discover a new way of fashion and combining clothes differently.

If I was one of the audience who likes fashioable and trendy lifestyle. That is a good idea for me. It is because I am such a lazy person (I suppose lots of people are as my age), I always sleep overhead. My clock hardly wake me up in the morning. However, if I had this amazing tool, that would be wonderful to let me select my clothes in the last minutes. I don’t have to worry I will get late and it is very convenient if I don’t have to think what the suitable clothing combination for today? It is a serious promlem, isn’t it? Everyday, we need to take time to cosider how I can have fashionably dressed, and even looking better than other people. “Excuse me, I’m gonna win today because I have ‘Lazy Suzi’”.

“Lazy Suzi” – It is a fantastic idea and it is also an amazing tool for daily life. Target audience would be teens, office lady, both male or female. Whoever audiences like beauty and their own lifestyle to represent themselve. It is hard to explain some people still care about their lifestyle when they realise that time goes by quickly.

Even “Lazy Suzi” is more helpful, but it is only a tool. If the audiences ask me how to put all of their clothes on the one machine together. I know some people they got many clothes, but the tool could not accept too many clothes inside. Moreover, the safety problem, size problem and capacity problem, all is still existed with the design. So, I would say this is a technical problem at the moment. However, we need to figure out and suggest the best solution to our audiences. For example, our team will do lots of research, testing and through different development to find out what the best features and benefits of this tool are, make sure it is safe and user-friendly, and also final outcome should be a part of our consideration.

To solve the problem and make people happy, we will promise our audiences that “Lazy Suzi” would be helpful, user-friendly and efficient. we will guarantee our audience that it is an efficient tool which is able to “save their time” and “build up their own lifestyle”
